Maggie Grace was born Margaret Grace Denig, September 21, 1983. She is an American actor best known for her character Shannon Rutherford in ABC TV series Lost. Born in Worthington Ohio, she dropped out of high school in order to relocate in Los Angeles with her mother after her parents divorce. They were struggling to get by when she got her first part in the acting world in the film Rachel's Room's leading character. The film for television Murder in Greenwich where she portrayed 15-year-old Martha Moxley earned her the nomination of a Young Artist Award. Grace Rutherford, the role she played in Lost between 2004 and 2005, was selected for an Screen Actors Guild Award. Grace was keen to pursue film after starring opposite Tom Welling's character, The Fog, in 2005. The actress starred in Suburban Girl The Jane Austen Book Club in 2007 as well as Taken (2008) opposite Liam Neeson. She reprised her role as Kim Mills in Taken 2 (2011) and Taken 3 (2013).She also played Alice in Malice in Wonderland, a modern version to Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Grace played the role of Shannon in Lost in the series, which included the conclusion. Grace appeared on Californication's 6th season that aired from 2013 until 2014. The actress plays Faith an actress in a group and as a muse to the stars who captures the attention of Hank Moody played by David Duchovny. As a member of the Gyllenhaal family, she is the daughter of filmmakers Stephen Gyllenhaal and Naomi Achs and is the younger sibling of actor Jake Gyllenhaal. Her career began when she was a teenager, playing small parts in a few of the films of her father and starred together with her brother in famous cult classic Donnie Darko (2001). Later, she was on the screen in Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind as well as Mona Lisa Smile (both 2002). Gyllenhaal was nominated to win an Golden Globe Award in both the drama Sherrybaby (2005) and the love story Secretary (2002). Both movies were critically acclaimed. The year 2006 was the time she had several commercially successful movies including World Trade Center. However, it was her role in the role of Rachel Dawes that brought her greater attention for her performance in The Dark Knight (2008). As a single mom in Crazy Heart (2009) she received a nomination for Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. The following years, she starred in comedies and dramatic films: Nanny McPhee & the Big Bang (2010) Hysteria 2011 and Won't Back Down 2012. The other roles she played were a Secret Service agent in the action-thriller White House Down (2013) as well as a singer in the film Frank (2014) and her role as the lead in the drama The Kindergarten Teacher (2018). Gyllenhaal was first introduced as a director and writer in 2021 with her drama about psychological issues The Lost Daughter. For this film she was awarded an award for the Best Screenplay Award at the Venice International Film Festival and received nominations for the Academy Award.
