Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson - born Jacqueline Luesby to Chris Watson and Jacqueline Luesby, two British lawyers, was born on August 8, 1989, in Paris. When she was five, she relocated from London to Oxfordshire to attend The Dragon School. Emma was inspired to become an actor at age six. For several years, she attended the Oxford branch Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. She learned to sing as well as dancing, and also acting. At the age of ten the actress took part in and played the leading role in a number of Stagecoach Productions and School Plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) was the film adaptation from J.K. Rowlings bestselling novel was first cast for the first time in 1999. Emma was discovered through Emma's Oxford theatre instructor. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone and Ron Weasley told Emma after 8 auditions, that she had been chosen for these roles. Emma was chosen to play alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. The release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's first cinematic screen appearance. It also was the most successful film of 2001. Its opening weekend and day sales were record-breaking. The film received praise from reviewers, and so were the performances of its three young starlets. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her excellent performance. Emma later won five awards for her performance in the film.
